Sheffield har gennem flere generationer udklækket markante pop- og rockbands. 1980’ernes elektroniske bølge med Human League og Heaven 17 gjorde byen kendt for industrielle klange og store hits, mens Def Leppard solgte stålbyens lyd i containervis.
